Tips To Keep Your Eyelids Looking And Beautiful For Long

by Tammy Tucker

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure for improving eyelids' appearances. It can tighten the sagging skin over the eyelids, get rid of bags under the eyes, lift drooping lower eyelids, and even get rid of excess skin and wrinkles.  However, just like other parts of the body, there are measures you can take to keep your eyelids looking young and beautiful for a long time so that you only go for eyelid surgery when it's necessary. Here are examples of these measures:

Quit Smoking

Smoking has been blamed for numerous problems, and now you can add wrinkles on your eyelids to the list. Tobacco contains nicotine, which narrows blood vessels in the outermost layer of the skin. As a result, your skin won't get adequate nutrients and oxygen, causing it to age and wrinkle faster than it should. Apart from that, the chemicals in tobacco also damage elastin and collagen, tissues you need to maintain a strong and elastic skin. Therefore, stop smoking id you don't want your eyelids to wrinkle.

Watch Out For Foods That Accelerate Aging

Wrinkles on the eyelids, and other parts of the body, is a natural process of aging as your skin loses its elasticity. Anything that accelerates the aging process also makes these wrinkles appear sooner than you would expect them. Therefore, you need to moderate your intake of salt, sugar, and red meat intake; these are some of the foods that accelerate aging.

Get Regular Eye Exams

Ptosis is a condition of drooping eyelids; you can either be born with it or acquire it later in life. Some eye conditions, such as nerve damage, can cause ptosis, so this is one more reason to get regular eye exams. That way, your eye care doctor can identify and such eye problems early before they create serious problems. It's also advisable to seek prompt treatment for any eye problem you may develop before they progress and cause your eyelids to droop excessively or even cause permanent eye damage.

Prevent Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma is the accumulation of fats or cholesterol under the inside corners of the eyelids. They don't pose a serious health danger, but many people find them unsightly. You are likely to get the deposits if you have high cholesterol or liver disease. Therefore, managing those two things may reduce your risk of developing Xanthelasma.

Of course, most of these measures delay, but do not completely prevent unsightly eyelids. As long as you are aging, you will develop bags or wrinkles on your eyelids. Fortunately, there are cosmetic procedures that you can get to improve your eyelids appearance, including eyelid surgery.
